Subscription Cost Calculator — what it really costs per year
Turn any weekly, monthly or quarterly price into its yearly cost, and see the total over several years with price rises.
What this calculates
A subscription is priced to feel small: €12.99 a month sounds like less than €155.88 a year, though it is the same money. This calculator turns any billing period into a yearly cost so you can compare like with like — a weekly plan against a monthly one, or a monthly plan against paying yearly. It also projects the cost over several years, because most services raise their prices regularly and those rises compound: a 5% increase every year adds more each year than the last. Seeing the five-year total is often the clearest way to decide whether a subscription is still worth keeping.
Formula
cost per year = price × payments per year (weekly 52, monthly 12, quarterly 4) year n cost = first-year cost × (1 + increase)^(n − 1) total = sum of each year's cost
Example
A €12.99 monthly subscription costs €155.88 a year — about 43 cents a day. If its price rises 5% a year, five years cost about €861 in total, of which roughly €82 is price rises alone.
Frequently asked questions
Is paying yearly cheaper than monthly?
Often — many services discount the yearly plan by the equivalent of one or two months. Put both prices in here, convert them to a yearly cost, and compare. The catch is that you pay up front and may not get a refund if you cancel part-way.
How much do I spend on subscriptions in total?
Most people underestimate it, because charges arrive on different days and at different intervals. Go through a few months of bank statements, list every recurring charge, and convert each one to a yearly cost — or let SubAudit keep that list for you.
Why include price increases?
Because they compound. A small yearly increase barely shows in a single month, but over five or ten years it adds a meaningful amount to the total — money you agree to by not reviewing the subscription.
