What this calculates

The standard VAT rate in Czechia is 21%. Locally the tax is called DPH. It is added to the net price of most goods and services, so a business charges the net price plus 21%, and the customer pays the gross figure. To find the net price inside a VAT-inclusive price, divide by 1.21 — subtracting 21% from the gross price would leave you short, because the VAT was worked out on the smaller, net amount. Like every EU country, Czechia also taxes some goods and services at lower rates or exempts them; if that applies to what you sell, type your rate into the calculator.

Formula

adding VAT gross = net × 1.21
removing VAT net = gross ÷ 1.21
VAT amount vat = gross − net

Example

Adding Czech VAT at 21% to CZK 1,000.00 gives CZK 210.00 of VAT and a gross price of CZK 1,210.00. Going the other way, CZK 1,210.00 including VAT divided by 1.21 gives back the net price of CZK 1,000.00.

Frequently asked questions

What is the VAT rate in Czechia?

The standard rate is 21%, and it applies to most goods and services. Some items are taxed at reduced rates or are exempt, depending on exactly what is sold. Check with Czechia's tax authority if you are unsure which rate applies to you.

What is VAT called in Czechia?

DPH. On invoices and receipts you will usually see it under that name or its abbreviation, next to the rate charged.

How do I remove 21% VAT from a price?

Divide the VAT-inclusive price by 1.21. The result is the net price, and the difference is the VAT. For example, CZK 1,210.00 ÷ 1.21 = CZK 1,000.00, so the VAT is CZK 210.00.

Does the same rate apply everywhere in the country?

Usually, but not always: in a few EU countries certain regions, islands or territories use different rates or sit outside the EU VAT area. If you trade in one of those places, use its local rate.

How current is this rate?

It was last checked against the European Commission's published rates on 2026-11-03, and is re-checked at least every January, when rates most often change.
